The LED Block holds a standard RED 5mm LED. LED stands for light emitting diode and is a polarized component - the LED will only glow RED when it is connected to the battery with the correct polarity (when polarity matters, we denote this with the red and black wire leads on the component). A 50 Ohm resistor is soldered in series with the LED, making it suitable for operation at 3 volts.
